In an exciting blend of fun and science, 4th grade students are diving into the world of energy through hands-on science experiments centered around roller coasters. This engaging approach allows students to explore key concepts of gravitational energy and energy transfer while designing and building their own miniature roller coaster. By utilizing materials such as foam tubing, marbles, and various ramps, students can observe firsthand how energy transforms as the marble travels along the track.

As students work collaboratively in small groups, they not only develop their understanding of energy but also enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They are encouraged to hypothesize by answering the following questions: What makes roller coasters go so fast? Why is the first hill always the highest? This interactive learning environment fosters a sense of curiosity and excitement so students are able to see the relevance of science in their everyday lives.
