Benton Community’s Girls Wrestling team will be beginning its third season on November 4th.  The Bobcats return eleven letter winners from last year’s season.  Within those letter winners are two returning WaMaC champions (Lizzy Wolf and Averie Gale), a state qualifier (Lizzy Wolf), and a state place-winner (Layna DeMoss).

The 2024-2025 season will bring multiple changes within girls wrestling around the state.  Girls wrestling will now be split up into two classes.  The Bobcats will wrestle in Class 1A.  Other major changes revolve around scoring.  Takedowns are now worth three points instead of two. Nearfalls can be either two, three, or four points based on the time a wrestler’s back is exposed. The last scoring change is where a fall can occur.  Wrestlers only have to have one support point (foot, knee, hip, etc.) in order to record a fall.

The Bobcats look to be thirty members strong.  The Bobcats begin the season at the South Tama Girls Invitational on Thursday, November 21st.  Other notable dates include December 12th (home dual vs. South Tama), January 10th (home dual tournament), and January 16th (home double dual vs. Solon and West Delaware).
