When you walk into a preschool classroom in the Benton Community School District you will see children experiencing learning through play-based, hands-on investigations. Some examples of Creative Curriculum in preschool settings could include studies about pets, clothes, balls, roads, trees, and even insects. This approach to learning focuses on developing language, literacy, mathematics, social-emotional, physical, and cognitive skills based on children’s interests and developmental needs.

For the past five weeks, our preschool classrooms have been buzzing with learning on the topic of clothing. We have been learning about different kinds and types of fabrics and clothing, the process involved in making and selling clothes, and how to care for clothes. We learned how to measure clothing using various types of measurement tools and how clothing is designed. The kids have enjoyed sharing different articles of clothing from their homes with their peers during Try it Tuesdays and seeing which type of soap produces the most bubbles. We will end our clothing study when we become clothing designers by tie-dying our own t-shirts and wearing them to school to celebrate our learning.
