In January, kindergartners are learning about the last topic of our FOSS science kit: motion! This is a favorite unit every year as students learn about gravity and slope because it is hands-on and they get to be scientists. They develop engineering skills as they ask questions, define problems, plan and carry out investigations, and analyze the data they collected so they could design new solutions.
Partners had to work cooperatively to create a ramp that would make a ball roll at different speeds. They were asked to create a ramp that would make a ball roll fast and after they solved that problem, they were challenged to make the ball roll as slow as possible. Through the scientific process, students learned to change the slope and ball position on the ramp to accomplish the task!
