Ashley Lueckenotto, 3rd Grade Teacher, Atkins Elementary
This year Benton had the opportunity to partner with Junior Achievement. Junior Achievement is a great program for our students to learn more about financial literacy. Some of our goals to learn about in 3rd grade were: the choices we have with our money, methods of payment, and how entrepreneurs help add value to our cities. We were lucky enough to have Jodi Hacker as our classroom volunteer to teach us these lessons. Jodi joined us for 5 sessions and taught us a lot! Our class really enjoyed the hand-on activities that Junior Achievement provided.
In our last session, we got to build a city. We talked all about what makes up a city and how entrepreneurs help cities. They look for a need and then start a business to fulfill that need. Our class got to decorate the buildings that were going to go into our city. Afterwards, we had to figure out where each place belonged and where it made the most sense in the city. It was a lot of fun and created great conversations!
