A school filled with displays of student work sends a message to students that their work and their learning are important. In taking responsibility for displays, students have an opportunity to learn and practice important social and academic skills. It provides an opportunity to learn from each other and to appreciate the work of others, nurturing empathy, respect, and a strong sense of community.  Student-produced displays can always be seen in the classrooms and hallways of Atkins Elementary. A new initiative developed by our PBIS team has students from two “buddy classrooms” teaming up each month to create a display featuring the Character Strong character trait. The picture posted above is a display produced by a Kindergarten class and a 3rd grade class of students who worked collaboratively to showcase their understanding of Responsibility.
